Founded in 1837 the historic village of Bungendore lies in a beautiful valley near Lake George. Boasting attractions such as local vineyards and the lake, it is a traditional Australian country town with a relaxed bush village atmosphere. The high altitude wineries around the town offer beautiful scenic outlooks, as well as outstanding wines and delicious restaurants. The historic railway station, a small but eclectic market at weekends, antique stores, and gift shops in the well preserved heritage buildings make Bungendore a pleasant place to while away some hours.
The Lake George vignerons produce fabulous wines, and there are several award-winning restaurants and great wine bars in and around the historic villages of Gundaroo and Collector, where you can relax and meet the locals.
