The mighty Murrumbidgee flows from the mountains in the south through some of the most spectacular country in the Australian Capital Territory, then west of the City of Canberra into the north and the Burrinjuck Dam. Its tributaries stretch like tentacles throughout the ACT. Along its banks are picturesque picnic spots and interesting walks to rocky gorges.
The Murrumbidgee is home to the Murray Crayfish which is now protected due to dwindling numbers from over fishing. The river speaks of the long history of those who have dwelt on its banks.
Special Features
The Murray Crayfish (Euastacus armatus) has the largest range of any of Australia's spiny crayfish. It extends from the cool mountain streams to the lower reaches of the Murray-Darling River System
