Kingston, once an industrial region is now one of Canberra's most sought after quarters. Home to a thriving night scene, a burgeoning cafe culture and the more fashionable shopping districts, this is the place to wine, dine and celebrate being cosmopolitan. Throw in to that the growing numbers of luxurious apartments along Lake Burley Griffin, and you have Canberra’s social hot spot. The new developments, Lake Burley Griffin/Kingston Foreshore, the rise of a café society and the well established Kingston Powerhouse have reformed Kingston as one of the most exclusive suburbs in Canberra.

The developing Kingston Foreshore is intended to be home to extensive waterfront housing and shopping. The Foreshore Cultural Precinct (as it will be known), is being created around the Canberra Glassworks and the popular Old Bus Depot Markets. These welcome additions will be a vibrant extension of the already exhilarating Kingston.

Things to do

  • Visit the Kingston Powerhouse, the oldest public building in the ACT
  • The Old Bus Depot Markets are iconic markets
  • The Canberra Railway Museum introduces visitors to the golden age of rail
  • Artespresso combines a restaurant, bar, and art gallery
  • The Kingston Hotel (Kingo) is an old local favourite watering spot
  • The B Bar or the The Holy Grail are noteworthy bars in Kingston
