The township of Lawson named in honour of William Lawson who in 1813 along with companions Blaxland and Wentworth, carried out the first European crossing of the Blue Mountains.
The town is famed for its excellent bushwalks, parks and waterfalls. The most noted is the 4 km South Lawson Waterfall Circuit that crosses South Lawson Park encompassing several falls on Ridge and Lawson Creeks. Located via Honour Avenue or Wilson Street.
Also boasting some spectacular waterfalls is North Lawson Park, which also has several walking trails. The main track, accessed via St Bernards Drive, is a 3 km circuit trail called Dante's Glen/Empire Pass, which is popular for bird watching. Another peaceful spot is Minnatonka Falls in Red Gum Park near Bullaburra just a short drive west of Lawson.
