Hartley, situated on the western edge of the Blue Mountains, is part of the beautiful Kanimbla Valley.
The Hartley area grew from a small farming community into a bustling township with courthouse and many inns, which catered for travellers across the Blue Mountains. The town went into decline when it was, bypassed by the railway from Mt Victoria directly to Lithgow in the late 1800’s.
As well as the Historic Village, Hartley has a handful of remaining heritage buildings, most of which are now galleries, B&B establishments and restaurants. You can wander into the sandstone courthouse and hear the re-enactment of a trial.
Today, Hartley is a rural residential area known for its apples, grown in past times, and its peaceful country atmosphere. With its serene landscape and stunning backdrop of the Blue Mountains escarpment, Hartley is not only an area of historic interest, it is also a much sought after rural escape.
Hartley, Little Hartley and Hartley Vale are easily accessible from the Great Western Highway.
