Year round, the lakeside country beckons bushwalkers and nature lovers. Offering magnificent scenery, with a lake, forest and open parkland to explore, Copeton Waters State Park is a popular destination for families, groups and couples taking a day, a weekend or a week away.
If you're a bird lover, look out for the native Regent Honeyeaters and experience the native Australian in the wild. For the fishermen, fishing on Copeton Lake offers cod, catfish, perch, redfin, and yellow belly. Trout can be caught in the Gwydir River downstream of the dam.
Water sports such as canoeing, sailing, swimming and water skiing are possible in the park. Whitewater rafting is popular at times when water is released from the dam. Enjoy picnics in the bush or by the lake, with electric, gas or wood barbeque facilities and bushwalking, camping, fishing or exploring the bush, where you will find fossick in the nearby diamond and sapphire sites.
Facilities have disabled access and pets are welcome. A Camp kitchen with refrigerator and washing-up facilities is on offer, as well as six boat ramps, two children's adventure playgrounds, six-hole golf course and two free tennis courts (racquets for hire, night lighting for a fee).
