Narrabri is best known for its cotton. The rich, black soil of the Namoi River Valley supports a diversity of agricultural activities, but cotton is by far the district's major industry. Cotton, sunflower and a variety of other crops are processed at the Narrabri Oilseed crushing mill, one of the largest in the country.

To the east lies the spectacular Kaputar National Park, renown for its ancient rock formations, where nature lovers can enjoy scenic drives, bushwalks, campsites and cabins.

Features

  • Marvel at the ancient rock formations, such as Sawn Rocks
  • Join a cotton-picking tour during the season or visit a cotton gin (April to June)
  • Do some research on the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility at Culgoora
  • Enjoy a picnic at the natural wilderness area of Pilliga Scrub or escape on any of the forest drives in the area
  • Walkers and nature lovers will enjoy rugged Mt Kaputar National Park located 56km east of Narrabri.
